I would like to tell you more about the latest upgrade I’ve done to my MacBook Pro 17″ (Early 2008 version, or MacBookPro 3,1 as in System Profiler).
After a lot of research, I found the best Solid State Disk (SSD) for price/performance. The little beast is a OCZ Vertex 120Gb.

First, I wanted to keep also my internal 7200 rpm 200Gb hard disk to keep all the pictures, songs and movies always with me. To achieve my goal, I also had to buy a “container” for it and I found the perfect one: MCE OptiBay (with also the USB enclosure for the SuperDrive).

In total I spent less than 600 USD but allow me to say that this is the biggest upgrade I had on a computer/Mac in the last 5 years at least!

You don’t believe me? Just to state some nice number, the boot time for Leopard 10.5.6 with my usual programs started at boot went down from a boring 2 minutes and 30 secs to a staggering 38 seconds.
I repeat, 38 SECONDS!

But that’s not all, now every application starts in less than a “bounce” on the dock! For the rest, even when all the applications are open, the overall performance is just.. better! The system is always responsive and snappy!

Some tips:

• In the non unibody MBP, install the SSD instead of the included HDD and then remove the SuperDrive in favor of the HDD. The reason is simple: the HDD of the laptop is connected to a SATA cable while the SuperDrive just to a slower ATA.
• Don’t overload the SSD with useless data (remember, the price per GB is way higher on the SSD and wasting it for mp3s you’ll never listen to is not that smart)
• If you can, update the firmware of the SSD (OCZ forums are really helpful)

Wow! June is gonna be an amazing month!! Let’s recap:
1) My baby is here now and she’s living with me since a week! Till december everything will be ok ’cause I’ll be close to her!
2) The new car… no, the new animal (228Hp and 250Km/h electronically limited), is arrived! Finally! It’s amazing and unfortunately I hadn’t the time yet to take some picts of it! I found something on the internet so I post it
My version is black, with brown leather sits, 16/9 navigation display (as in the pictures) and 18″ wheels with sportive set-up! It’s amazing!!!

Ok, I can say it now: my life is going too great! I’m in love, I have good and true friends, a great job, and a bright (and stars-striped) future not so far from me!

If you are a PHP and an ASP programmer, as I can say I am, really often you’ll encour in the problem to remember or confuse the syntax of the two programming languages. I think is normal, at least for me

Yes, on saturday the Rotaract Monza, with the work of Francesco, Davide and Paolo (and my computer-help making the flyer) organized a nice and funny Poker Tournament in the restaurant Fossati of Canonica al Lambro (MI).
We played the Texas Hold’em version and we were in 27 people so we splitted in 3 tables of 9 people each one. The rules were simple: everybody was starting with 240 points in chips and the last three men standing in the table were able to go to the final against the other 6 finalists.

In the qualification, I won and I was also the chip-leader ot my table and for not so many points (I had 1160 points and the chip-leader had 1257) I was quite the chip-leader of the tournament.

After the fine dining (that wasn’t surprising us because Ristorante Fossati is famous since years for his great food), we started the final that least for 2 hours and a half but at the end…. I WAS THE WINNER!! I won with a full house without having even a couple in my hands.. i know, that’s a lot of luck

So, right now I have a cup and a nice set of chips and cards in a beautiful and professional case.
